WI: A Modern Napoleon Pre-WW2

Alright, my dudes.

Since post WW1, there are various so-called "Regents" in Europe, is there any actual figures that could easily declare themselves as King?

Honestly, i saw Horthy as the most capable figure for these kind of scenario.

And also, what's the possible ramifications of such scenarios? Especially Horthy (or god forbid...) Franco?

Actual OTL example: Albanian president Zogu declared himself King and instituted a monarchy in Albania lasting from 1928 to 1939.

As for other options, you'd be hard pressed. Many thrones could have switched to a different branch of the royal family in the interwar period, but being taken over or established by a complete outsider? Not so much.

There are indications that Horthy would make the Regency hereditary in his family, but that's not the same thing.

Ah! I forget about Zog I!

But what if, for example, Horthy or Franco did the unthinkable?

Does it have to be in Europe?

IOTL, Ras Imru Haile Selassie was declared Prince-Regent by Haile Selassie and had become the Head of State of the Ethiopian government which was relocated to Gore in order to continue Ethiopian resistance in the western provinces that hadn't been occupied by Italian forces. If the gold mines of Asosa remain under the control of loyalists or if Ras Imru decides to organize a resistance movement in the core Ethiopian Highlands, you could see him remain in the fight instead of surrendering to the Italians and being detained in Italy. Depending on what shape the Patriot movement takes and how effective it is, you might see Imru's Patriots establish a Free Ethiopian state in Gojjam province - or anywhere where the Patriots control the most amount of territory - and encourage Imru to take the title of Emperor.

If we want to get closer to Napoleon, then you could see Ras Abebe Aregai become Emperor.

Because honestly, any non-European cases would not attract so much butterflies and all weird stuffs.

Not Franco himself but his granddaughter married the son of the (deaf) elder brother of Juan Carlos father who had renounced the succession. Franco was too astute to believe it would work but there was quite a lot of people who thought that his wife and her circle supported this...

Have France win the war of 1870 or at least not lose or not have to fight it?

Then you have the actual Napolean dynasty continuing in power into the 20C

Yes of course but only after his grandfather was death. Before (with Franco alive) there was a lot of rumours that the Alfonso "operation" was proposed by either the bunker (the more hardliners between the Franquistas who opposed even the smallest reforms of the regime) or the quite influential circle around Franco's wife at the Pardo Palace. My personal opinion being that Franco was a realist and would never fail to the Cromwell mistake...

Edited for clarity

Andorra under Boris Skossyreff? He claimed he was the regent of the French monarchy after all, before he was appointed king. And Andorra did have some internal issues in the 30s, related to early 30s Spain, so why not abolish the old system of the co-princes and put Skossyreff in there?
