Changing Industries: Nintendo pursues Manga instead of Video Games

Sadly Sonic was butterflied away as SEGA had no need to create a rival to Mario since Nintendo wasn't in the video game industry.
I guess Alex Kidd might be butterflied away or it becomes a Dragon Ball game like it originally was IOTL.

Butterflied or not Alex Kidd proved non-successful for SEGA making his series obsolete. Too many consoles and not enough games making them shown to be different made SEGA blend in with the crowd during the gaming crash of 1983.

Hey I just realized something, what's the story between smb 2 and doki doki panic in this thread? Is the later it's own thing or is it the 2nd arc or something for the mario manga?

Chapter 11: Crashing into Success Year 1996
The SEGA Saturn was doing fine for itself amongst other things. Crash Bandicoot was just released for the Console due to the advanced disc capabilities of the console. Another title was fighting game Dead or Alive that focused on fast paced fighting. Other titles includes Megaman 8 and Nights into Dreams. Both games were big hits amongst the gaming crowd and regardless of not having online built into the console, the SEGA Saturn proved to be a success.

Duke Nukem 3D was released for the Microsoft 3DO and sales of said console had reached the 15 million range. The Hudson Soft Pippin would get another Tekken release that promoted their console's online capabilities equaling sales to 14.5 million. Microsoft and Apple were neck in neck with their competition and both were not conceding an inch. The King of Fighters 1996 was released for the Hudson Soft Pippin.

As for PC Command and Conquer Red Alert was just released to the PC market in North America and proved to be even more popular than the last Command and Conquer title. The game focused on an alternate reality where Hitler did not exist leading the United Soviet Socialist Republic to take on the European Union for land dominance. This game would secretly be a prequel to the Command and Conquer game that starred GDI vs Nod.

Nintendo released a new manga series called Wave Race where it focused on summer sport Jet Skiing. The manga series about Jet Skiing did ok but not enough for Nintendo to focus on turning it into an anime series. Nintendo also released Super Mario and Peach's Castle. A new arc in the Mario series were Mario and Luigi took on Bowser's army in paintings that transported them to different worlds that were powered by Power Stars. Peach's Castle proved to be popular and Nintendo was seriously thinking about having 4Kids Entertainment provide the dubbing for said series.

Chapter 12: Reaction of a Final Fantasy Year 1997
The SEGA Saturn would continue to get great games from Square. One in the like of Final Fantasy 7 which would be the first 3d version of Final Fantasy. It was a culture phenomenon and changed how many outlets looked at gaming as a whole. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back was another game that made huge waves in the Saturn's life cycle. Naughty Dog seemed to have a liking for SEGA's planet named console. Another title that made some good headlines was Tomb Raider II starring the adventures of Lara Croft.

The Microsoft 3DO only got two titles as did the Hudson Soft Pippin and that game was Marvel vs Street Fighter which boasted secure online gameplay for those gamers that had it. Marvel vs Street Fighter proved popular with its fast gameplay and assist system. Marvel vs Street Fighter would start a competitive scene in gaming. The other title that was released Street Fighter III New Generation did not get the reaction that Capcom had hoped for. Street Fighter III removed many favorites from Street Fighter II and had new faces that would take time getting used to.

In Japan Nintendo had just released the Pokemon Anime and it was met with rave reviews. People around Japan, young and older, fell for the Pokemon craze.

With this reaction Nintendo knew it had a big hit on its hand and 4Kids was hard at work bringing the title to the North American market.

In other news of Manga, author Shigeru Miyamoto decided to reboot the Star Fox series with many more planets to visit and a rival to team Star Fox, Star Wolf. Wolf O' Donnel would be Fox's rival who worked for Andross as a hired hand alongside his partners in crime.

Who could tell what was happening for Nintendo in the Manga scene and if their other shows would make big waves in the North American market of anime. With that thought in mind Nintendo met with dubbing studio Saban that had brought Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon to market. Maybe the dubbing studio could work on Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Punch Out, or F-Zero? These were one of the manga series that Nintendo thought would have success overseas.

Chapter 13: Pokemon Craze Takes Over Year 1998
Metal Gear Solid was a title that also was released for the SEGA Saturn. It involved military and governmental conspiracies to have super weapons used by said governments and military. Spyro the Dragon was another title that came to the Saturn. The story of a young dragon saving his clan from a nefarious villain that has turned the other dragons into eggs. Spyro the Dragon and Metal Gear Solid were major hits and propelled the SEGA Saturn to new heights of popularity.

Hudson Soft Pippin got Harvest Moon Pippin that was a 3D version of the Harvest Moon games made by Natsume and Marvelous. The 3DO got no big title for themselves but they were able to get into talks about releasing a new game in three years about a certain Halo for evolved combat.

It was 1998 in North America and 4Kids showed how popular Pokemon could be.

Kids around the North American market were obsessed about Pokemon and had a fever about it. Pokemania was here to stay as Nintendo signed deals for toys and other merchandise. Many gaming companies came forward offering to make a video game out of Pokemon, but Nintendo declined all the offers not wanting to get involved in the market. Pokemon proved to be popular enough were Nintendo would keep the series alive as long as possible. Nintendo would also make a manga more entwined with Satoshi Tajiri's vision called Pokemon Adventure alongside a manga that detailed Ash and friends adventures.

Shonen Jump just got a deal to make a video game about Inuyasha. It was an Action Role Playing Game in the style of Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore were four players would fight against enemies and demons in real time. The most broken character was Miroku, Sango, Inuyasha then Kagome in that order. The adorable fox demon Shipo was not playable during the game but helped out occasionally. Shonen Jump's new foray into anime video games would prove to be successful and they would continue to get licenses from video games that never came overseas IOTL like Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball Z.

Edit: Some of Nintendo's editors wanted to make a series establishing Mario's rival Wario as his own character and would call the series Wario Land. The Six Golden Coins is still made ITTL but I forgot to mention it. Wario exists as a character.

Ah so instead of the Saturn being what kills sega it's become this timelines version of the Playstation.

Inuyasha wasn't a jump Shonen, it was for weekly Shonen Sunday like the rest of rumiko's works.

Ittl Sega got the lucky break his console was powerful and japanese enough to get third party support, and with Hudson cornering the child/family market and Microsoft going for the adult and western market, they become the Otaku console by default

I see. Still, Shonen Jump would be a video game developer for anime games that never came overseas. I see Shonen Jump's past ventures not hindering them even though they had nothing to do with Rumiko's works. Shonen Jump also makes original titles for anime and has heavy ties to the SEGA Saturn.

Chapter 14: Legendary Adventure Year 1999
The SEGA Saturn continues to get great games in the likeness of Silent Hill. The 3DO also gets the game but has less impressive graphics for the time. Soul Calibur is another title that the Saturn gets from the video game market. It is a 3D arena fighter that takes full advantage of being one. Multiple weapons used throughout history are present in said game and is seen as a big hit for game developer Namco. Megaman Legends is rereleased for the Saturn as a stand alone title after the success of the first Megaman Legends for the Hudson Soft Pippin. Resident Evil 3 also comes to the SEGA Saturn as an exclusive title. SEGA's ties to Japanese developers is helping them big time at this point.

The Microsoft 3DO is still waiting for that next big hit for its console and realize that the current console cannot run the new console. With that the Microsoft company begins work on a new console that can handle the game and provide internet gameplay at the same time. It will be two years until the console is ready.

Meanwhile the Hudson Soft Pippin is enjoying Street Fighter 3rd Strike with its online modes and interactivity amongst gamers world wide. Noticing what Microsoft is up to, Apple decides to create a new console that also has good online play but it too will take two years to complete.

West Wood of Command and Conquer and Red Alert fame decides to release their latest title Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun to PCs everywhere; however, a certain Electronic Arts is eyeing the company for a potential buy out.

Nintendo decides to give Yoshi his own manga series called "Yoshi Story" that stars the loveable dinosaur. The story focuses on Yoshi trying to retrieve the Happy Fruit from Baby Bowser and Kamek who just hate how happy the Yoshis are all the time.

Nintendo also tries to pitch its properties to the Toonami block. So far, Pokemon is the only one chosen; however, interest in the Legend of Zelda takes a time slot from Tenchi Muyo. With no more time slots to place its shows Nintendo starts shopping around for takers of its Super Mario, F-Zero and Punch Out series. Not knowing what to do with Donkey Kong as its own series Miyamoto decides to bring the kong to the Mario series as a main stay and one whom is a rival to the Mario brothers alongside Wario.

Speaking of Wario, Wario stars in his own adventures against a pirate woman called "Captain Syrup" who wishes to steal his treasures and his own castle. Watchers join Wario as he uses all of his abilities to thwart Captain Syrup and her gang of pirates to reclaim his stolen riches and show the world why you don't mess with Wario.

Chapter 15: The New Millennium Year 2000
The sales of the SEGA Saturn equals to 45 million consoles sold. This helps with Resident Evil Code Veronica appearing on the console. SEGA also starts work on its newest console to compete against the likes of Apple and Microsoft's machine.

Microsoft would contact game developer Bungie to make their game a stand alone launch title for its upcoming system. Madden NFL series would also appear for online gaming in the North American market for the 3DO. Hudson Soft would get SSX and Tomb Raider Chronicles for its console with SSX having online play. Apple would try to find an online shooter that could compete with Bungie's upcoming game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Star Fox: Adventures in the Lylat System would be animated by Disney's animation team for exclusivity on the channel. It would follow team Star Fox as they liberated the galaxy from the evil scientist Andross and the rival mercenary team Star Wolf. Voice actors would be the same as IOTL like the Nintendo 64 version. The show would air on Disney Channel after school program.

Having no luck getting more cartoon blocks on Toonami, Nintendo sent pilots for its shows Metroid and adult bounty hunter thriller F-Zero to the Adult Swim Block. The age ratings for both shows would be Age Rating 14 and up. Metroid would involve bounty hunter Samus Aran fighting against the forces of Mother Brain and her Space Pirates. Samus Aran would also have a run in with Ridley whom ate her parents. F-Zero involved futuristic racing and bounty hunter Captain Falcon taking down targets that were deemed to difficult to be tackled by the intergalactic police. Captain Falcon would attempt to thwart the plans of intergalactic terrorist Black Shadow. both shows would instead be put on Fox channel The Fox Box alongside Nintendo's Punch Out. Punch Out would focus on boxer Little Mac as he faced impossible odds to prove he was the best boxer in the Animated Western Circuit. Each season would focus on Little Mac taking on different opponents with different strategies needed to take them down. Donkey Kong would end up being the final opponent.

Super Mario Bros would appear on Nickelodeon's after school program in Kablam and have taken over time slots in the 4:00 P.M. Super Mario Bros would pick up at the beginning of the sagas were we are introduced to the brothers and their powers to take on Bowser and his Koopa army to rescue Princess Peach. Donkey Kong would also travel alongside the Mario Brothers in an attempt to rescue Princess Peach before them.

Nintendo's series besides Star Fox would be animated by their subsidiary TMS. Nintendo would see huge success and start venturing into other ways to sell more merchandise in the North American market. Nintendo would sign deals with Hasbro to make their toys come to life and enter a deal to make board games out of their Legend of Zelda series.

The new generation is upon gamers and companies know this. Microsoft decides to release their new console called the XBox.

To complete this console, Microsoft enlists the help of Bungie to develop a new game called Halo.

Halo Combat evolved was a game that revolutionized the first person shooter genre and video games in general. It also had online gameplay that those with stable internet connections could enjoy to the fullest.

Apple decided to throw off their partnership with Hudson Soft due to only getting family tie in games. Apple would release its new console called the Apple igame.
Apple Igame.png

Apple would get Grand Theft Auto 3 Vice City and Jak and Daxter the Precursor Legacy. Apple would also buy Take Two Interactive.

To get revenge on Apple leaving them behind, Hudson Soft would team up with SEGA to make a new console that also had online capabilities.

Large Sega Dream Cast.png

SEGA would make this their last console as they knew competing with Microsoft and Apple would be a waste of time and resources. After this generation SEGA would return back to the arcades and buy some new companies along the way.

Nintendo's Pokmeon series would enter the Pokmeon Johto saga and the intro was something to behold.

Of Nintendo's shows the best ones were Legend of Zelda and Pokemon. Mario Bros and Punch Out were not far behind with Metroid and F-Zero attracting earlier audiences.

Star Fox was giving Disney Channel quite the ratings and even convinced Disney itself to invest some money into the Nintendo company. A total of $70 Million for 15% control of shares. That is right, Disney wanted to break into the anime department and would try to take more controlling shares into Nintendo's control of Pokemon.
