Belgian Vietnam

To be honest, a Belgian Vietnam is very unlikely (especially with a lack of Belgian navy ships), but the Belgians may consider joining the French conquest of Vietnam from 1859-1861 with an 1850s pod or even the 1883-1886 conquest with an 1880s pod. The Belgian Vietnam may or may not be allowed by France, but if allowed, will result in Belgium controlling Vietnam. Belgium controlling Vietnam will result in the horrors of rubber, rice and coffee exploitation with associated atrocities as with the Congo Free State and Belgian Congo, especially if Belgium still gets the Congo Free State and Belgian Congo. News reports will end up reducing the Belgian atrocities in both Vietnam and the Congo in 1908, followed by Belgium ruling both colonies under the Belgian Parliament in addition to the Belgian King. In WW2, Belgian Vietnam will be defended by the Belgians and the British, slightly slowing down the Japanese in Southeast Asia. After WW2, Belgium will be forced to fight angry Vietnamese until Vietnam's independence, together with any other Belgian Southeast Asian colony until independence from Belgium.

Danish/ Norwegian/ Swedish Vietnam

There is also the unexplored options of a Danish, a Norwegian or a Swedish Vietnam. The Danish Vietnam can be accomplished by having Denmark-Norway colonize Vietnam sometime in the 17th century, 18th century or the 19th century (Danish colonial era in India). With reduced butterflies, the Danish Vietnam will be taken by Britain in 1807-1812 (after capture of Java the previous year). If returned to Danish control or captured by Denmark (successfully) later in the 19th century, then, Vietnam will be looted and colonized by the Danes for rubber, rice and coffee. In the 20th century and during WW2, Danish Vietnam will be defended by the Danish and the British, slightly slowing down the Japanese in Southeast Asia. After WW2, the Vietnamese will fight the Danes until Vietnamese independence. Any Norwegian Vietnam will have similar consequences to Danish Vietnam but with Norwegians instead of Danes (after 1814) and Swedes (after 1905, Norway has to acquire Vietnam from and before that as a part of Denmark and/ or Sweden). What is written above can be applied to any other Danish or Norwegian Southeast Asian colony in the 20th century until independence from Denmark or Norway.

As for a Swedish Vietnam, the Swedes can colonize Vietnam sometime in the 18th century or the 19th century (Swedish East India Company). With reduced butterflies, the Swedish Vietnam will be taken by Britain in 1810-1812 (after capture of Java the previous year). If returned to Swedish control or captured by Sweden (successfully) later in the 19th century, then, Vietnam will be looted and colonized by the Swedes for rubber, rice and coffee. In the 20th century and during WW2, Swedish Vietnam will be defended by the Swedes and the British, slightly slowing down the Japanese in Southeast Asia. The Swedes may not allow Japanese or British forces into Vietnam due to Swedish neutrality, though. After WW2, the Vietnamese will fight the Swedes until Vietnamese independence and the Swedes will be less likely to help Vietnam's independence and Vietnam War struggles. Any Norwegian Vietnam will have similar consequences to Danish or Swedish Vietnam but with Norwegians instead of Danes (after 1814) and Swedes (after 1905, Norway has to acquire Vietnam from and before that as a part of Denmark and/ or Sweden). What is written above can be applied to any other Swedish Southeast Asian colony in the 20th century until independence from Sweden.

Finally, there are the possibilities of Belgium colonizing Oceanian islands assuming they haven't been colonized by other European Nations, US, the rest of the Anglosphere, Chile or Japan. Belgian colonialism in the Oceanian islands, due to a lack of people, territory or resources in the islands, may result in Belgium not being able to commit too murderous human right abuses, but those islands will be proportionally devastated by such abuses. Those islands will be defended by the Belgians and the rest of the Allies in WW2, but may be recaptured from the Japanese instead. After WW2, Belgium will be forced to fight angry Samoans (Belgian Samoa), New Hebrides (Belgian New Hebrides) or other Pacific islanders until their independence, together with any other Belgian Southeast Asian colony until independence from Belgium. However, the less populated and less able to be independent islands will be Belgian today.

By the way, any Oceanian island (nation) which ends up and is still under Belgian, Dutch, British, the Anglosphere settler colonial nations', French, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Spanish or Portuguese rule in the late 20th century (including through sales by Spain to the non-Spain countries mentioned here or sales to Japan followed by Japan losing the Oceanian island nations to the US in WW2), since wars pitting the colonizers against each other that time will be impossible and since decolonization will be the norm from that point onwards, will be forced to decolonize the islands. However, the less populated and less able to be independent islands will be under colonial rule today. As for Chilean ruled Oceanian islands, same thing even though Chile is not a colonizer nation.

The natives, or natives plus Chinese, may actually fight off the Belgians in Vietnam, or any other European colonizer of a smaller weight class than France or Germany.

Yeah, even during the French invasion, there were close calls that could’ve displaced the French off Vietnam entirely.
