AH Challenge: PM Clement Freud

Because I'm bored.

With a POD no earlier than 1973, how could the late Clement Freud (the great British radio personality) have risen to the office of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom?

Really though, short of him joining Labour instead of the Liberals I can't see this happening.

I suppose that it could happen if he became Liberal leader in 1973 and being rewarded by becoming Foreign Secretary if he backs Heath or Wilson following a minority Government in 1974. How he becomes PM from this I am unsure.

He was my favourite contestant on 'Just a Minute'. I was thinking about a WI on similar lines, but couldn't figure out how it would work. I would think that his speeches would have been very good and humourous.
