Acting President

As said in the Tyler thread,
there's not much of a substantive difference between "acting as the President" and "being the President".

But is there none? Let's imagine that Tyler is a different man, or is simply replaced on the ticket by some sadsack backbencher who happened to kill a lot of Indians one time. Either way, he accepts that he's just the "Acting President," and that becomes the accepted thing that happens to the VP when the President dies. What kind of effects could that have down the road? Certainly during Reconstruction (assuming it still happens, which I think is defensible) you might see some Radicals trying to use it to hem in Johnson.
