A miniseries prequel to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Aired on ABC and the Disney Channel for 10 episodes. Vaguely inspired by Tim Power's novel On Stranger Tides. Johnny Depp returns as coproducer as well as the narrator, a role he retains for the next two series.

1722. Four years after surviving Blackbeard's ill-fated expedition to find the Fountain of Youth, Jack Teague is now first officer on the Wicked Wench, one of the ships on the infamous Bartholomew Roberts' pirate fleet. However, Jack seems reluctant to serve even under a famous captain - not at least because of Robert's investments and participation in the slave trade. All that changes when Commodore Armando Salazar, a feared veteran of the Spanish Navy, is given carte blanche to exterminate pirates on the high seas. Escaping with the Wench and taking command with Hector Barbossa as his first mate, Jack also discovers that Salazar is secretly after a powerful artifact known as the Trident of Poseidon, which could give its owner mastery of the sea...

Three years after defeating Armando Salazar and earning a pardon thanks to the efforts of Cutler Beckett, Jack Teague, now known as Jack Sparrow, serves the East India Trading Company, albeit reluctantly. Though he still has command of his beloved Wicked Wench, aided by his ever reliable first mate Barbossa and able quartermaster Joshamee Gibbs, a desire to return to a pirate's life takes hold in Jack's mind. And just his luck as the opportunity arises when Beckett commissions Jack to take a load of slaves to the Africa one of whom holds a secret that could lead to the city of Zerzua, said to hold a treasure beyond reckoning...
