I've been playing too much Among Us. Came up with an idea for an Among Us map and some new tasks to come with it.
Aquarius_Base.png

Basic idea is that it sits at the bottom of the ocean floor, to kinda reflect that the three other levels are in space, in the air, and on the ground, so this one is in the sea.

With the Remans fallen, the Potentate a fading memory, and the nations of men once more restored to their natural state of tumult, the city of Alinor fell, for a time, back into the melancholy inertia of triumph. The Sunbirds had won the war for the sky. No longer would the most brilliant minds of Summerset be forced to compete with Lorkhan's spawn directly; now was a time for reflection, for wistful serenity in the face of the unending curse of mortality. For so long as chaos swirled in the Arena, the Altmer - descendants of the true gods of the sky, not the corrupted idols of Creation - could thrive in peace, disturbed only by the occasional coastal raids from beyond the Veil of Mist.

But a vacuum can be filled. And when a Kreathi (or was he Atmoran?) general united the Colovian Estates, the Symbologicians, masters of arcana and numerological contemplation, were consulted. The Seneschals (speaking for their tranced charges), assured the High King that all was well. Like Pelinal before him, this new warlord would no doubt carve a bloody swathe across the Nibenay. He might charge wild and reckless into the Elden Grove, and therein meet his doom, or perhaps even contend with the Three Thieves for control of the East. Reman had attempted such, after all. No matter which of these fates came to pass, the Altmer could be assured security in their island utopia. The Symbologicians were certain.

It seemed only moments had passed before everything changed.

Somehow, somewhere, the Symbologicians missed a step. More likely - or so it is whispered - Tiber reached out into the logic-webs and slashed them with his ruby red sword. Either way, when Valenwood fell, and the fiction of the Dominion was exposed, the moons seemed very red indeed. Stories filtered east too late. The Brass Golem, some monstrous heresy wrapped in souls, was on its way. And without warning, on the very day before Landfall, the Symbologicians' placid pronouncements turned to dire omens.

It was entirely too late.

The titan's wake shattered Summerset. From the storm-wracked cliffs of Lan Sercene to the gently rolling terraces of Nilcestumir, the Numidium broke all. Where it passed, chaos, fire, death, and madness were all that remained. And when the day was done, so too was Alinor. Spared the direct wrath of the Warp storms, the capital only ever faced the humiliation of watching red dragon banners unfurled from its crystalline towers. But it was enough. The conquered city submitted to its fate.

Time passed. The conquerors' faces changed, but the conquest never did. With the Wake destined to wreak its havoc upon the very land of Summerset for eternity, Alinor and the other surviving cities did their best to restore what semblance of the old order they could. Some, like Firsthold, found a place for themselves in the new mannish order. But the proud mer of Alinor did not. Could not.

Today, they stew in silent resentment, watching as the greatest city in the world, the temple of the king of the gods, falls deeper into decay and ruin. Oh, the King attends to his duties, watched from his balconies by the Imperial Proconsul in the Symbologicians' former tower. The nobles from Lillandril and Sunhold and Skywatch still compare their lineages in the barrier villas and squabble over decisions of the Annalists. Citizens wander the Menagerie, attend sense-plays at the Theatre of the Mind, and gaze in awe at the rainbow-flecked towers and sprawling gardens. But the cracks are beginning to show. The manor districts, stripped of whole clans during the Tiber Wars, lay crumbling, inhabited by squatters and frauds. Alinor's foreign quarter, once a segregated and dismal place meant to keep foreigners out of the temple districts, has become the beating economic heart of the city. Faced with an uncontrolled population boom, wealthy estate-lords lease off segments of their terraced fields to become slums. The humiliated Navy now barely floats a dozen warships.

In another city, not far to the southeast, the very last Sunbird is dying.

A very recent POD this time: the major Mississippi River floods of 2011 are a little more major and a little less well-handled. The Old River Control Structure and Morganza Spillway, which keep the river on its current course through Baton Rouge and New Orleans, fail, and the main flow of the river switches into the Atchafalaya, taking a steeper, shorter route to the Gulf. The economic consequences, especially in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, are terrible. The ports of New Orleans and Baton Rouge become unusable as the river narrows and loses depth, putting strain on oil and food supplies nationwide. The country recovers, but New Orleans will never be the same again. Tens of thousands of jobs disappear. Many who left after Katrina never return. The port facilities are not upgraded upon the Panama Canal's 2016 expansion, and are soon obsolete: the new size of Panamax couldn't come to dock even if the water were deep enough. Tax revenue dwindles, crime rises, and the streets empty out. Tourism, which so many had counted on to sustain the city in the absence of trade, begins to falter as the urban landscape decays. The city becomes a husk, half depopulated, soon more than half. Over the decades, Gulf waters will rise up and the former river delta subside. Parts of the French Quarter will be disassembled and rebuilt in Las Vegas, but the rest of what was New Orleans will one day slip, mourned but not defended, beneath the waves.

This map is a from a ten-year retrospective article on the decline of New Orleans, with Baton Rouge and Morgan City (near the mouth of the Atchafalaya) shown as well. Baton Rouge has suffered badly but has retained its massive oil refineries (now with more complicated logistics) and status as capital, and so will survive. Morgan City was virtually wiped out in the initial flood of the Atchafalaya. It has been rebuilt, though the new city and old town have little in common beyond the name--the original population has been swamped by newcomers constructing and operating its ultra-modern new port. In fact, the whole Atchafalaya basin is filling with people. Once the heart of Cajun Country and home to some of the better preserved natural lands in the state, the region's distinctive character is already being swept aside by the torrent of wealth and activity that is the Mississippi River.

--

This idea started with a much earlier POD, with New Orleans as a city state and the river intentionally diverted by its unfriendly northern neighbors, but I couldn't quite get it to hang together. As I researched the Atchafalaya capture scenario, I realized that there was a perfectly good POD in recent memory, with a bit more story already baked in: Katrina weakening and temporarily depopulating the city five years earlier, the Panama Canal expansion potentially leaving a failing NOLA behind five years later. I don't really have any idea whether my water level for the Mississippi is reasonable--I can't tell from what I've read how quickly the switch would take place, only that a threshhold would be crossed and the main current could not be recovered. I have a feeling that the map shows too wide a river--maybe the state has deliberately diverted what it could that direction?

This is both very interesting, but at the same time terrible seeing basically the slow death of New Orleans as well as much of Cajun Country and 2011 finish the job left by 05 and Katrina, as well as the State losing itself to cultural change as much as to the floods. (I lived in Mississippi at the time, we lost power for about a week, give, or take. God, it was terrible.)

I can only wonder how this affects the rest of the USA like the 2012 and later 2016 elections, and stuff like that given the mess in Louisiana.

I've been playing too much Among Us. Came up with an idea for an Among Us map and some new tasks to come with it.

THE NORTHERN CRUSADE OF THE 28th CENTURY

The Northern Crusade Final.png

The State of Greenbay had controlled the Eastern Lowlands of Wisconsin for several decades, having unified the region in early 2700s under the leadership of Mark Johansen. However, after Mark I’s untimely death caused a regency its densely forested coast became home to pirates. For the better part of two decades, these pirates had raided up and down the coast of Lake Migican, attacking ships and settled communities alike. They had been a persistent annoyance for the rulers of the region, but it was not until 2764 that they attracted the ire of the Catholic world. That year, a group of pirates attacked a pilgrimage ship off of Poverty Island, killing most of the pilgrims before raping and torturing any survivors. This sent a wave of fury rippling through the Midwest, and later that year Pope Andrew VI called a crusade against the Lutherans of Eastern Wisconsin in general and Greenbay in particular.

The first ruler to take the cross was Jon III Nowak, Governor of Chicagoland. Nowak and his army marched north out of Gecaco in spring 2765, reducing Ruseen after defeating Governor Oliver Johansen at Cenocha. Meanwhile, Commissioner Rick Stockton of Winnebago County marched on and captured Jaynsvil, burning a number of Lutheran priests at the stake. The crusaders established a series of forts in the region surrounding the city to exert their control over the populace while the inquisitors went about their work. In 2766, a flotilla of crusaders from the Soo stormed Greenbay proper and sacked the state capital, carrying off a great horde of riches before occupying it.

In 2767, the crusade began in earnest. An absolute horde of crusaders from across the midwest landed at Milwaukee, easily taking the city before spreading out into the rest of the countryside. The rest of the Door peninsula was also conquered, as well as the northern port of Menitawac. At this point, the internal cohesion of Greenbay had utterly collapsed, leaving a number of petty warlords to fight the crusaders.

Between 2768 and 2773, the crusaders conquered most of northern and central Greenbay. The port city of Shaboycan was burned to the ground, while the riverine cities of Abeltan, Fondou Lac and Oshkosh were all reduced after long, bloody sieges. Many of the outlying farming settlements were brutally sacked in the name of the Prince of Peace, while hundred of Lutheran priests were tortured to death as heresiarchs. The despoiling of the rest of the country sent waves of refugees south-west to Madison, where the last of the free lords, Carl Woellner, raised his banner. After several years of desperate preparation, Woellner marched north-west and met an army of crusaders on the shores of Lake Fox in 2776. The struggle was legendary, with dozens of noblemen falling on both sides, but as the sun fell the Crusaders were forced to withdraw. Unfortunately, while Woellner had been in the middle of the country, an Illinoisan Crusader named Isaac Miller had marched on Madison and, with the aid of a traitor, put it to a merciless sack. The city streets, already choked with refugees, ran with blood as thousands of innocents were put to the sword. Those who could fled, leaving Miller the governor of the ashes.

After the fall of Madison, any unity the Crusader might have had collapsed. With no foe left in the lowlands, some proposed advancing into the more rugged country of the west and continuing the crusade, but few backed them. Instead, the minor lords and commoners who had sought their fortune in the reason carved it up between them, establishing dozens of small princedoms that quickly mediatized into five territories ((Crusader) Greenbay, Oshkosh, Shaboycan, Madison, Fall River) and the papally-endorsed State of Wisconsin. The Door Peninsula was directly annexed by Soo, who also established quarters in all of the Catholic ports.

Woellner, on the other hand, fled the region with what few people were left to follow. He went west into the wild lands beyond the dells, where he and his followers carved out a kingdom amongst the forests and hills. Lecross, the only town of note in the region, became the seat of the Kingdom of the Driftless, a bulwark of the Sconnie tribes against further crusades or aggression by the Methodist Iowans.

All of this is canon with my Medieval America 2800 map, if you want to see the broader context.

As you can guess, this comes from an Axis victory timeline, where the Soviets decisively won the Winter War much easier, which caused the German High Command and Hitler to not underestimate the Red Army...as much. As stated on the copy on the map, eventually the Germans go to war with the Soviets and inevitably lose by the late 1950s. This strange little outpost at the far south of the world remained well supplied by the rogue state of Rhodesia after the fall of the Reich. That is, until Rhodesia achieved majority rule in the 70s. Cut off from the outside world, Adolf Hitler Stadt was never able to gain self sufficiency and the surviving inhabitants eventually emerged from AHS in 1981 and attempted to re-integrate into society, into a radically different world than they left behind in the 1940s.View attachment 605463

On December 3rd, 1935 a few large portals had opened in Earth low orbit. The Equalist Union had arrived. These ships had landed in Arctic Ocean, there were at least a dozen. They had rested on the ocean floor after sending out various drones about the world to survey the world's ecological, political, and technological progress.

The nation known as the 'Union of Soviet Socialist Republics' was decided to be their host. On a cold winters night, Starlight and her guards had been teleported to the capital of Moscow. They lead their way to Stalin, and had the whole USSR staff detained. From then on, it was announced to the world that they had taken command. It took a few weeks, and by Starlight's hand the androids and Equalist military was mobilized in order to take total control of the country. After total military control over the former USSR was established, the Equalist Union on Earth was founded.

The nations of the world were confused at what was going on. Through powerful propaganda and imagery, limited mind control, the Equalist Union was able to sway the Soviet populace under their sway. They began upgrading the nation to their wildly advanced tech, not long after they had invaded and swallowed up parts of China. They would take a full year to conquer the areas they deemed 'civilized'.

Any opposing groups were judged by the Equalist Union, those deemed fit for re-habilitation were sent to re-habilitation centers, and those who resisted were sent to concentration camps or labor camps which were under construction. The Equalist Union consolidated control over the core territories. Through mass production of their androids, drones, etc through mining and resource gathering they managed to do so with ease.

The nation known as 'Nazi Germany' was of great interest to them and they adopted many of the visual styles and costumes of the nation. Nazi leaders found the Equalist ideology fascinating, but were forced to give up their racism. Former Nazi leaders were appointed leadership positions throughout Europe, and Germany was allowed to remain whole among various other restructuring.

The Equalist Union appointed various generals / individuals of high skill, loyalty, etc to leadership positions across the 'subdivisions' of the Union. All of which would create their own flags. A large majority of cities across the world were subject to forceful planning and re-construction.

The Equalist Union designated certain territories across the world to be de-populated over the course of 5 years. Citizens were allowed to bring belongings, and were granted various things in return for exiling their homelands. After they were forcefully exiled into the 'work' zones in which those people in those areas were put to work in factories and plantations in exchange for better lives and education.

Certain nations were left alone, some falling to Communism, others falling to other ideologies. These nations were permitted to continue life as they see fit as long as they submitted to the Equalist Union's demands for the complete ban of fossil fuels and disposable plastics.

All would not be well however, many groups that opposed the Equalist Union were sold into slavery or killed off. The Equalist Union used something called 'Mind Gas' in order to subjugate weaker minds, which would be replaced with loyalty to the Equalist Union.

Across the world, a one child policy was established as well as mandatory abortion for those who didn't comply. Vaccinations of the population were done to eliminate almost all form of disease, although many of these were experimental and had some side-effects in small portions of the population. Mental illness and other such thing were breeded out to the point of extinction.

The Equalist Union would leave native Americans alone and expand their lands.

As for the labels...

1. The People's Republic of Scandinavia fell into communism after the Equalist Union conquered the world. They are a hermit state that rarely trades with anyone but other communist nations.

2. After Britain ceased to exist, the Equalist Union allowed for Ireland to fully re-unite.

3. Brittany was allowed independence from France, that was annexed into the Union.

4 and 5: The Republicans won the Spanish Civil war, the Equalist Union meddled in their affairs and made sure the far left factions came out on top.

6: Turkey became communist after fleeing Soviet remnants flooded into the country and overtook it. It is very much like a North Korea like state, but more modern and less extreme.

7: Egypt was allowed to continue existing as it saw fit, and the Imperialist elements of Britain were overthrown.

8: West African de-populated zone...you see no evidence of human life here, but there is some Equalist mining stations here.

9: The middle eastern work zone and de-population zone border here, it is a stark contrast between the 2 zones.

10 and 11: The East and West Indian de-populated zones have been cleansed of all pollution and human life, much to the dismay of the Indians.

12: Korea, parts of China and Japan were completely de-populated. China and Japan function as the most powerful 'powerhouse' of the world, the Equalist Union taking advantage of their large populations.

13: This part of Indonesia has been de-populated for arbitrary reasons...

14: While this part of Australia was de-populated for even more arbitrary reasons....

15: Mozambique and Madagascar are no longer in existence. What replaces them are the sounds of nature.

16: The African work zone is one of the worst places in the world to this day.

17: The South American work zone has the least population of all the work zones, after de-population efforts have been scaled up in this area.

18: Amazon natives are left alone entirely in these regions. Some tribes probably don't know the events of the world even happened.

19: This part of South America is home to the most trading and commerce in the whole world, with 6 different canals that have lots of traffic.

20: This part of Mexico is deemed uninhabitable by the Equalist Union and was so, depopulated.

21: Florida man continues to exist as his own nation.

22: Wyoming was made into a large nature preserve where no humans are permitted without special passes.

23: Canada was allowed to take the North-East and became home to the British Royal family after they fled Britain.

Looks like an interesting map. What exactly is Equalism? Have you worked out the specifics of the ideology?

Equalism is an ideology that is similar to communism on Earth that is combined with ultra-nationalism, juche, fascism, anti-racism, expansionism, imperialism, colonialism, and xenophobia. However it combines aspects of eugenics in order to breed out the strongest and most intelligent people. Everyone in the union is vaccinated by mandatory law. Alchohol and drug usage is strictly prohibited / enshrined in law. The leader of the party and nation, Starlight rules with an iron fist. Everyone in the union listens to her as there have been many purges that have gotten rid of all subversive elements. Indoctrination into the values of the party starts the moment a child goes to school.

It combines religion with that of the government, and there is some sort of bizarre occult based around the ideology that is the official state religion. Combine the zealousness of Imperial Japan/North Korea, the economic system of the Soviet Union, with the nationalist principles of Nazi Germany and you have the Equalist Union. Slavery of those who have done crimes, or captured enemies is state mandated. There are concentration camps/extermination camps, gulags, and re-education camps. In some cases, the Union will take completely contradictory actions against this ideology if it sees fit. It in short, is a theocracy based around the leaders of government taken to the fullest extent.

Originally it started out as a more communist 'everyone is equal' sort of thing with good intensions in mind...but after all...good intentions pave the way to hell.

As soon as I saw the name Starlight, I realised what this was and burst out laughing. 😁

Heh, yes. I don't know why I came up with that idea....I originally thought of it in 2017.
I will say, though, that, to me at least, there is a bit of a disconnect between Starlight's professed ideology in the show (which I would term simply "Institutional Tall Poppy Syndrome" and the incredibly over-the-top dystopian aspects here. That being said, we never saw her expand her ideals beyond Our Town in the show, and the differences might simply be the rough attempt to impose them on a human setting, considering that her attempts to impose equality in the show were directly tied to the nature of her species.

The world in 1940 just before the Second Great War. On the Allies stand the British, French and reborn Russian Empire. On the other side stand the Fascist Axis, consisting of Germany, Italy, Poland, Yugoslavia, Finland and Hungary. The Japanese continue to subjugate China and the world hold's its breath.

That makes sense but it was cool to see a communist pony (basically) in the show. She's my favorite I have to say lol. What do you think of the ideology itself, do you think a really wacko-crazy ass human Starlight with hyper tech would create such a thing? I think its really interesting.
